The Council of Churches called on the UN and the Red Cross to evacuate the residents of Oleshky

The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has called on the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and world religious leaders to urgently facilitate the evacuation of residents from the occupied town of Oleshky. In the city, where food supplies were last seen at the end of May, more than 6,000 trapped civilians are on the brink of starvation.

This is stated in a declaration by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches.

The statement notes that the occupied city is under a humanitarian blockade and is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. Residents are starving, and Russian troops are preventing them from leaving. Critical infrastructure in the town has been virtually destroyed, and there is no electricity or gas supply. 

The statement also notes that Ukrainian authorities and international organizations are trying to negotiate the evacuation of the city’s residents, but Russia is using the humanitarian catastrophe to spread propaganda.

As previously reported by Intent, TV host Kateryna Osadcha recorded a video message regarding the critical situation in the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. She called on the public not to ignore the civilian residents and to do everything possible to facilitate their evacuation.

Musician and frontman of the band“Okean Elzy,” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, also called on Ukrainian and foreign journalists to draw attention to the tragic situation in the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region.
