Investigators have referred to court the case of a service member who sold rear-echelon positions and stored ammunition and explosives at home. The defendant faces up to seven years in prison.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region.

The investigation revealed that the 37-year-old soldier promised to transfer a man to rear-area duty. He assured the man that he had the necessary connections to do so. The defendant asked for $5,000 for this “service.”

Law enforcement officers documented the handover of a $1,500 deposit and copies of the man’s personal documents to the serviceman. He received the money in his own car. The cash, documentation, and vehicle were seized as physical evidence. The court ordered the seizure of the vehicle and the confiscated property.

During an authorized search of the defendant’s residence, police discovered and seized two combat grenade casings, two fuses, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition of various calibers for rifled firearms. Forensic examinations confirmed that the seized items are ammunition and explosive substances.

Earlier in the Odesa region, a court sentenced an officer who had attempted to negotiate with the commander of another military unit to transfer service members to the rear in exchange for money. During the trial, the service member pleaded guilty, agreed with the facts of the case, and expressed sincere remorse. He confirmed that he had personally handed over $1,000 to the commander in exchange for assistance in transferring the service members, and asked the court for a more lenient sentence.
