The Swiss company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world's largest container line, has acquired 51% in the TIS container terminal in Pivdennyi port in Odesa region.

This was reported by Ekonomichna Pravda, citing its own sources.

The partnership with MSC is the first precedent for a global container line's direct entry into the capital of a Ukrainian container terminal.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is a Swiss family-owned company founded in 1970. In addition to container transportation, MSC develops port infrastructure, inland logistics network and invests in rail and air transportation. The company operates a fleet of more than 1,000 vessels with a total capacity of more than 7 million TEU and calls at 500 ports in 155 countries.

TIS is the largest port in Ukraine in terms of cargo turnover. Founded in 1994 by Oleksiy Stavnitser, the family-owned company operates six specialized marine terminals, as well as an extensive railway infrastructure and its own tug fleet. TIS operates in the waters of Pivdennyi port in Odesa region.

Meanwhile, one of the key stages of the concession tender for the first and container terminals has started at Chornomorsk port. Potential investors have already gained access to the project data and started analyzing the terms of future cooperation with the state.

The Tender Commission for the selection of a concessionaire for the First and Container Terminals in the port of Chornomorsk in Odesa region decided to admit applicants to the tender in early April.

At the prequalification stage, the commission assessed the applicants' compliance with key requirements, including financial solvency, experience in managing port or logistics assets of a similar scale, and experience in implementing infrastructure investment projects.
