Three citizens of Ukraine, one of whom is a resident of Odesa region, were sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason and collaboration.

This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The resident of Odesa region left for Russia before the outbreak of a full-scale war, and in February 2024, he signed a contract with the aggressor country's Ministry of Defense. After a training course at the training grounds in Moscow region and the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region, the traitor was sent to equip the positions of the racists near Kreminna.

Subsequently, his unit was transferred to Verkhnekamianske to attack Ukrainian troops in the Siverskyi direction. Two residents of the temporarily occupied districts of Luhansk region joined the Seventh Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Federation.

As part of the enemy unit, the traitors participated in the capture of Siverskodonetsk and Rubizhne. Then they were sent to the Slavic direction, where they were later captured as the only survivors of their unit.

Earlier, the Odesa Court of Appeal upheld the court's verdict, which found a former police officer from Mariupol guilty in absentia of treason and committing a war crime.

The court sentenced the 41-year-old to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ex-military off icer from Mariupol, who retired from law enforcement in 2014, voluntarily went on the run from the enemy and joined a military unit of the Russian Armed Forces.

The Odesa court also found an entrepreneur detained in 2022 guilty of treason and illegal handling of weapons and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. According to the case file, a 54-year-old businessman from Odesa district, recruited by the federal security service, was involved in the adjustment of enemy strikes. He came to the attention of the Russian secret service in the summer of 2018, when he was visiting relatives in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
