The previously detained mayor of Bashtanka, Berehove, has been imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 1.1 million.

This was reported by the Judicial Power resource.

Beregovoi was suspected of embezzling more than UAH 1.1 million during the purchase of clothing for the military. According to the investigation, he may have abused his official position to help an entrepreneur seize budget funds. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The prosecutor's office insisted on bail of UAH 3 million and is now considering appealing the court's decision. As a reminder, the previous hearing to choose a preventive measure did not take place due to the judge's recusal.

According to the investigation, Berehovoi misappropriated about a third of the funds allocated for winter clothing for the military. This happened through a scheme with overpriced procurement. In particular, the prosecutor's office announced 19 more suspicions against Mykolaiv officials.

Investigators found that Berehovoi signed contracts with two private entrepreneurs for more than UAH 1.1 million to purchase 150 sets of winter clothing and boots. However, the examination showed that the prices in the documents were significantly overstated. According to witnesses, the mayor acted through a deputy and intermediaries who bought the uniforms at a regular price and then sold them at a tender at an inflated price, pocketing the difference.

The exact amount of damage caused to the Mykolaiv region has not been disclosed. However, along with Mykolaiv region, the prosecutor's office also checked Zaporizhzhia region, where officials received 9 suspicions. In total, the damage amounted to almost UAH 375 million.
