Police send to court the case of an assistant to conscientious objectors

Investigators have sent to court the case of a 23-year-old resident of Odesa district, who is accused of helping men liable for military service avoid mobilization.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to investigators, the police found that the 23-year-old offender was distributing information among his acquaintances about solving any issues related to avoiding mobilization. He claimed that in return for a fee of $3,000 to $12,000, he could influence the necessary officials of the military medical commission, territorial recruitment and social support centers in Odesa to decide to remove the client from the military register for health reasons, as well as border guards who would help patients leave the country without hindrance.

"We have documented how the offender agreed with one of the persons liable for military service to produce fake documents for him and received UAH 4 thousand in advance. For refusing to pay another 5.5 thousand dollars, the young man threatened to send the client to the front. The suspect was detained in accordance with the procedural procedure as soon as he received the second part of the agreed amount," said investigator Mykyta Zvyagintsev.

Thepolice gathered enough evidence and charged the offender under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, i.e. accepting an offer, promise and obtaining an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefit.

The accused is in custody and faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
