An operation to rescue two sick elderly women from the constantly shelled city of Beryslav took place yesterday.

According to the Kherson regional police, medical workers approached the local police unit with a request to help evacuate two local residents who needed urgent medical care.

"A 64-year-old woman had heart problems, and a 72-year-old woman had high blood pressure and a suspected heart attack. Due to the constant Russian attacks on the city, ambulances were unable to safely reach their destinations. Therefore, the only hope for saving people is the police," the department said.

Evacuation teams of the Beryslav District Police Department immediately went to the specified addresses. Law enforcement officers helped the women get into an armored car and transported them as quickly and safely as possible to the agreed destination, where medical workers were waiting for them.

Last week, while evacuating a sick 60-year-old resident of frontline Odradokamyanka, a police armored vehicle hit an anti-personnel mine with special protective equipment. Fortunately, no one in the vehicle was injured in the explosion, and the police were able to transport the sick man to safety.

Earlier, while evacuating wounded civilians from Antonivka , patrol police officers in their official car hit an anti-personnel mine. A 32-year-old patrol policeman was injured. Before that, volunteers and representatives of the Kherson City Military Administration evacuated 47 people from Antonivka and other hotspots of the community. One of the volunteers was injured as a result of an explosive drop from an enemy drone. According to Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson MBA, volunteers and MBA staff involved in the evacuation of people from under fire risk their own lives and lose their health to get those who ignored calls to evacuate until the last moment.

"Every day, according to the official, it is getting harder to find volunteers for evacuation teams working in extremely dangerous conditions. After all, each flight may be the last," added Mrochko.

However, despite the danger and shelling, the evacuation of civilians in Kherson region continues. To leave the frontline settlements in Kherson region, residents are advised to contact the local police, 102, local authorities or volunteer organizations. Information can also be obtained by calling the Kherson Regional Military Administration's hotline: 0800-33-09-51.
