Police open case against Mykolaiv City Council officials

Police have opened a criminal investigation into possible abuses by Mykolaiv City Council officials during a tender for waste sorting. This is a contract worth more than UAH 1.25 billion.

This was reported by the Communication Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast Police.

According to the press service, the police, while monitoring publications on the Internet, came across a story that referred to possible abuses by officials of the Mykolaiv City Council. This information became the basis for opening criminal proceedings.

The investigation focused on a tender for a contractor to provide waste sorting services. This is a project with a budget of UAH 1.25 billion and a 25-year contract. To verify the circumstances of this procurement, law enforcement officers are conducting a series of investigative actions.

Currently, officers of the Investigation Department and operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police are conducting searches authorized by the court. They are seizing documents and other materials that may be relevant to establishing the truth in the case.

The investigation is being carried out by investigators of the regional police department under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - "Abuse of power or position that caused grave consequences."

The day before, investigators from the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office and the police conducted searches in the city council, where they seized documents related to the tender for the construction of a waste sorting line.

Recently, all-Ukrainian media and popular Telegram channels have been publishing daily stories accusing the authorities of trying to implement the project through a company without staff, equipment, and experience.

Back in January 2025, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Fifth Administrative Court of Appeal, recognizing the city council's inaction as illegal and ordering it to build the sorting station.
