Photography and video recording were banned during the sham elections in Crimea

The occupying authorities in Crimea have banned civilian photography and video recording during the illegal elections to the Russian State Duma. Only media outlets controlled by the Kremlin were allowed to cover the voting process.

The ban applies to filming at polling stations, in front of buildings, and during in-home voting. The authorities justify the decision by citing the “need to ensure the safety of election commission members and voters.” Inna Guzeeva, deputy chair of the Crimean Election Commission, was among those who announced the ban . 

A key phase of the election campaign for the Russian parliament is scheduled for September 18–20. This is the first vote to determine the composition of the State Duma since the outbreak of full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022. Voting has also been organized in the occupied territories of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU have stated that they will not recognize the results of these elections.

As reported by Intent, in annexed Sevastopol, the occupying authorities announced another wave of “nationalization” of property belonging to Ukrainian enterprises and private individuals under the pretext of their alleged support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Without providing any evidence, the “Parus” factory, a number of private companies, as well as homes and apartments belonging to Ukrainian citizens, were seized.
