Odessa has prepared a contingency plan in case of a water shortage

<span><span><span><span><span><span>An extraordinary meeting of the Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations was held in Odesa. The meeting was convened to address the need to ensure a stable water supply for the city amid extreme summer heat, low river levels, active algal blooms, and ongoing military threats. </span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>At the commission meeting, the city government’s actionplan and recommendations for utility companies were approved. Specifically:</span></span></span></span></span></span>

• <span><span><span><span><span><span>The “Infoksvodokanal” branch will prepare generators for pumping stations, build up fuel reserves, and optimize energy consumption to minimize the impact of potential power outages.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
• <span><span><span><span><span><span>All municipal healthcare and educational facilities must inspect and fill their internal drinking water reservoirs to capacity.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
• <span><span><span><span><span><span>Additional locations have been identified for water collection by tanker trucks to deliver water to residential areas.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
• <span><span><span><span><span><span>District administrations, in collaboration with international humanitarian missions, must build up a stockpile of bottled water and coordinate emergency delivery protocols with major retail chains.</span></span></span></span></span></span>
• <span><span><span><span><span><span>All available reservoirs—both municipal ones and those located on the premises of private or inactive enterprises—will be inspected. This is necessary to ensure sufficient resources for firefighting and technical needs.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>In the event of emergency power outages, water suppliers are exploring solutions to supply water at reduced pressure or according to a strict schedule. </span></span></span></span></span></span>

Previously, the Odesa Executive Committee did not support a proposal to raise rates for centralized water supply and wastewater services, so the decision was not adopted. Not a single member of the Executive Committee voted in favor of the relevant draft resolution.
