Odessa has made the list of Ukraine’s top 12 cities for the construction of biogas plants. There are 17 agricultural companies registered here that produce raw materials for energy generation or could serve as partners.
This is according to a study by the YC.Market analytics team.
The report notes that selecting a specific location for plant construction requires further analysis. In particular, issues such as the placement of production facilities, raw material volumes, and logistics need to be examined.
Biogas production in Odesa and the Odesa region is currently developing actively in two key areas: the utilization of municipal waste directly within the city and the processing of agricultural biomass in the region.

The main environmental and energy project in the city itself is the biogas plant at the “Dalnytski Quarries” municipal solid waste landfill. The facility was launched by Clear Energy Group. The complex has an electrical capacity of 3 MW and operates using three modern Austrian cogeneration units. It will be able to utilize up to 12 million cubic meters of landfill gas per year and generate approximately 70,000 kWh of “green energy” daily—more than 24 million kWh annually.
In the Odesa region, in the village of Okny, there is a biogas complex built using technology from the company “Zorg Biogas Ukraine.” The 1.2 MW plant operates exclusively on plant biomass.
In the Bolhrad District, a biogas plant operated by "Agroprime Holding" is integrated into a large pig farm.
Amid the war and constant risks of power outages, biogas could become an additional source of light and heat for Ukrainian farms. This will reduce dependence on external energy supplies and lower the costs of disposing of livestock and poultry waste. Large farms operate nonstop year-round, so they can provide a steady supply of raw materials for processing.
