Odesa Regional Hospital and Maternity Center Announce COVID-19 Quarantine

The administrations of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital and the Odesa Regional Perinatal Center have introduced quarantine restrictions in their medical facilities.

As explained by the press service of the regional hospital, quarantine was introduced due to the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health announced the detection of a new sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus called Nimbus in Odesa region. According to the ministry, 81 cases of Stratus sub-variant and two cases of Nimbus have been confirmed in the country. The Nimbus sub-variant of the coronavirus (NB.1.8.1), as well as the Stratus sub-variant (XFG), are currently dominant in the world. These are new mutations of the Omicron strain.

Mutations for the coronavirus are a natural process. Just like the influenza virus, SARS-CoV-2 is constantly changing, with new variants and sub-variants emerging. People with weakened immune systems and concomitant diseases remain at risk, for whom seasonal recommended vaccination is provided.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to end the quarantine and state of emergency imposed in connection with the coronavirus pandemic in June 2023. The first case of COVID-19 in Ukraine was diagnosed on March 3, 2020, in Chernivtsi, and the first death was recorded on March 13 of the same year.

The first case of coronavirus disease was detected in Odesa region on March 25, 2020. On the same day, the first case of infection was confirmed in Kherson region. On Friday, May 5, the World Health Organization lifted the pandemic status of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

As of June 28, 2023, 5 million 557 thousand 995 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Ukraine. The majority of those who fell ill -<b> </b>5 million 445 thousand 577 patients (98%) - eventually recovered, but 112 thousand 418 died as a result of the infection.
