Odesa customs officers found undeclared currency on two women during a customs inspection of a car traveling from Moldova to Ukraine through the Novi Troiany - Chadyr Lunga checkpoint.

According to the press service of Odesa Customs, 61.1 thousand euros were in the hand luggage of one of the passengers among her personal belongings.

As customs officers found out, 31 thousand euros belonged to the owner of the car, and the rest belonged to her relative, who was also traveling in the same car. The currency was declared for customs clearance and control. Moreover, the car was traveling in the "green" lane.

Reports on violation of customs regulations on the grounds of Part 1 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine were drawn up on the fact of failure to declare cash currency. The women were returned 10 thousand euros each, the amount allowed to be carried across the border without declaring, and the rest, which amounted to more than 1.8 million hryvnias at the National Bank of Ukraine exchange rate, was temporarily seized.

In seven months of 2024, Odesa Customs revealed violations of customs rules worth UAH 6.3 billion. In 300 cases of violation of customs rules, the objects of offenses worth UAH 13.5 million were temporarily seized.

Earlier, SBU officers exposed a corruption scheme at Odesa Customs, with two inspectors among the detainees.

According to the agency, the chief state inspector of one of the customs posts set up a scheme to systematically extort bribes for unimpeded movement of consumer goods across the customs border.

In June, a woman tried to take out of Ukraine undeclared currency worth almost UAH 820,000 through a checkpoint in Odesa region.

During the inspection of her luggage and the car in which she was traveling as a passenger, in addition to the equivalent of 10 thousand euros, 20,370 US dollars were found.
