The Baltskyi District Court of Odesa Region has passed a verdict in a bribery case related to mobilization evasion. The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine.

This is stated in the Unified Register of Court Decisions.

According to the case file, on July 20, 2024, a military officer from Odesa region met a citizen at a bus station in Balta and offered him assistance in evading military service. In exchange for USD 4,500, he promised to influence officials at the territorial recruitment center (TCC) who were to issue documents on his unfitness for military service for health reasons.

On the same day, he received an advance of USD 1,000 from a conscript. His plan was to convince a friend of his who worked at the TCC to issue the necessary documents for free and keep the money for himself.

During the court hearing, the defendant pleaded guilty in full. He explained that he had indeed received some of the money and intended to pass the matter on to an acquaintance who could "solve" the case without additional costs. The court took into account that the defendant had no previous convictions, had a positive characteristic at his place of residence and was a second-group disabled person. The defendant also expressed sincere remorse.

Given these circumstances, the court found that the defendant did not pose a high public danger and could reform without imprisonment. He was fined UAH 76,500 (4,500 tax-free minimum income). The verdict can be appealed within 30 days.

Meanwhile, the Malynovskyi District Court of Odesa found a serviceman guilty of falsely reporting a bomb threat to the court and sentenced him to 5 years and a month in prison.

The court also found a resident of Odesa guilty of setting fire to a church building in February 2024 and sentenced him to three years in prison.

Earlier, Intent wrote that the court ruled on the case of a serviceman who did not return to duty after a vacation. The soldier of the military unit was accused of unauthorized leaving the place of service.
