Mykolaiv region plans to improve bus transportation for schoolchildren

Mykolaiv region is preparing to launch a pilot initiative to modernize the school transportation system.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

During a recent working meeting with the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, raised the problem of transporting students to educational institutions. According to him, the families of schoolchildren consistently complain about the difficulties they face when traveling to their schools.

- "Due to the significant number of appeals from parents of our students, there is a need to finalize this reform. Mykolaiv region is ready to pilot the project," said Vitaliy Kim.

On August 5, three communities in the Mykolaiv region received new school buses equipped to meet inclusivity standards.

Kryvoozerska, Ingulska, and Myhiyivska communities received the buses. In total, 12 such buses were purchased for the Mykolaiv region. The purchase was made as part of a public investment project supported by the European Union under the Ukraine Facility. The specialized vehicles are equipped with lifts, wheelchair locks, and other means that allow for the safe transportation of children with special needs. Earlier, some of the buses have already been transferred to specialized educational institutions, where they are used for their intended purpose.

Earlier, Mykolaiv region received 15 new school buses for local communities. The vehicles were purchased with the support of the Kingdom of Denmark and UNOPS, which made an important contribution to improving the transportation of schoolchildren in the region. The communities include Koblivska, Oleksandrivska, Domanivska, Sofiivska, Bratska, Kazankivska, Voskresenska, Novobuzka, Horokhivska, Pervomaiska settlement, Kryvoozerska, Stepivska, Bashtanska, Bereznehuvata and Berezanska communities.
