Mykolaiv Region Plans ₴50M Composting Cluster to Reduce Waste

Mykolaiv region is planning to build a modern composting cluster. UAH 50 million is to be raised for this purpose.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the DREAM ecosystem.

As part of an initiative to reduce the amount of municipal solid waste (MSW), the Voznesensk territorial community planned to create a composting cluster that will reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfills and raise the level of environmental awareness of the population.

The main goal of the project is to make efficient use of organic waste by processing it into high-quality compost.

This will allow:

The composting cluster will have an average annual capacity of 6,000 tons and cover an area of 12,650 square meters. The facility is planned to be located on the territory of the landfill in Voznesensk. The cluster will be equipped with modern machinery, including shredders, sorting lines, and aerators. Separate collection of organic waste will be carried out in accordance with European standards. It is planned to introduce aerobic composting technology that will ensure environmentally friendly processing.

The project budget is UAH 50 million 350 thousand. The construction was initiated by the Voznesensk City Council.

According to the description, the implementation of this project will bring significant environmental and economic benefits. The project is expected to reduce landfill waste by 30-50%, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, produce organic fertilizer for agriculture, and create an environmentally responsible society.

The project requires funding and support at both local and national levels. The environmental certification confirmed by the project design opens up prospects for attracting investors and international grants.

Mykolaiv region has also decided to create an environmental and energypark. It is planned to raise UAH 180 million to implement the project. The project will include the reconstruction of local sewage treatment plants and a solid waste landfill, with further transformation into an environmental and energy park.

In addition, to improve the energy security of the Ochakiv city territorial community, the local authorities announced the launch of a project to install cogeneration units. It is planned to raise almost 5 million euros for its implementation. Four cogeneration units will be installed as part of the project.
