Mykolaiv region: contractor caught on embezzlement during hospital renovation

The director of a private company in Mykolaiv region is suspected of embezzling almost UAH 5 million during the renovation of a hospital facade. He is accused of overstating the scope of work and entering false data in the acts of work performed.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In the Mykolaiv region, the prosecutor's office served a notice of suspicion to a 44-year-old director of a private company on the fact of misappropriation of budget funds during the repair of the facade of a hospital in the Bashtanka district.

According to the investigation, the contractor deliberately overstated the amount of construction work performed and entered false information in the completion certificates. This allowed him to illegally receive UAH 4.9 million from the state budget.

The suspect is charged under Part 5 of Art. 191 (misappropriation of property by abuse of office in a particularly large scale) and Part 1 of Art. 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Investigation Department of the Bashtanka District Police with the operational support of the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region. Under the law, the contractor faces up to 12 years in prison.

In September, a court in Mykolaiv refused to seize the property of the director of Transstroycapital, who is suspected of embezzling money during the construction of a bridge over the Southern Bug River. According to the investigation, the contractor submitted fake certificates of completion, and an engineer at Mykolaiv Regional State Administration facilitated the scheme. As a result, the state could have suffered large losses.

In addition, a large-scale fraud with the city budget during the purchase of lighting equipment was uncovered in Mykolaiv. According to the investigation, the company's director, together with officials and businessmen, overstated the cost of goods, which resulted in the illegal receipt of more than UAH 6 million. The court took the company's director into custody, and the investigation continues to investigate and check all those involved.
