On July 25, at the age of 66, Serhiy Shevchenko, a restorer of paintings and icons, head of the restoration department of the Mykolaiv Museum of Local Lore, died after a serious illness.

This was reported by the museum.

A graduate of the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute (now the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts), he devoted his entire professional life to art. At the Mykolaiv Art and Production Plant, Serhii Shevchenko worked for many years on artistic blacksmithing - decorative lattices by him still adorn the city's cultural sites. In particular, Serhiy Shevchenko taught at the Department of Graphic Design at the Mykolaiv Institute of Culture.

In 2012, he contributed to the creation of the exposition of the local history museum, decorating halls 11, 13, and 14 with his wife Tetiana. The collaboration grew into a full-time job: in July 2013, he officially became part of the museum team as an artist, and in 2018 he headed the restoration department. Until the last days of his life, he worked on restoring the museum's exposition after enemy shelling.

In the Mykolaiv Museum of Local Lore, exhibits are restored before being presented in the exhibition halls. In 2023, Serhiy Shevchenko spoke toSuspilne TV channel, where he described the restoration work to prepare the exhibits. At the time of the interview, the local history museum had already come under fire from the Russian military five times and the exhibition was evacuated.

The farewell to Serhiy Shevchenko will take place on July 30 at 11:30 a.m. in the Church of All Saints at the old necropolis.
