The Executive Committee of Mykolaiv City Council has approved the redistribution of UAH 864.5 thousand for meals for children in preschool education institutions. At the same time, the Department of Education warns that these funds will be enough for a short period only, and the need for additional funding remains significant.
The decision was made during a meeting of the executive committee on June 10.
According to Hanna Lychko, Head of the Education Department of Mykolaiv City Council, the funds were redistributed from the expenditures for meals for students of general secondary education institutions to provide meals for kindergarten students.
In turn, MikVisti reports, citing Hanna Lychko, that the additional UAH 864.5 thousand will not cover the needs of the preschool education system until the end of the summer.
"This will definitely not be enough until the end of the summer. We have sent a request to the mayor and the Department of Finance. It is to be considered at the session," noted Hanna Lychko.
The education department has already asked the city authorities to allocate additional funds. The final decision on funding is to be made by the deputies of Mykolaiv City Council.
In addition, according to the official, the problem of lack of funds concerns not only kindergartens. By the end of 2026, all educational institutions in Mykolaiv that provide meals for children will lack UAH 149.48 million.
Hanna Lychko added that the amount of additional funding will depend on the city budget and the decisions of the deputy corps.
"I don't know how much money will be allocated, because the education department does not see the revenue side of Mykolaiv's budget. Therefore, it will not be up to the education department to decide, but we will operate within the limits of the expenses that will be given to us," she explained.
Earlier, Intent wrote that the number of preschool education institutions and children attending them continues to decline in Mykolaiv region. Over the past three years, the region has lost more than three dozen kindergartens, and the number of pupils has decreased by almost 3,500.
In April, at a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council, deputies considered the liquidation of three preschool education institutions. the issue of closing kindergartens #104, #128 and #138 was brought to the session by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych . As a result, the deputies supported the decision to liquidate kindergarten No. 138.
