Mykolaiv has planned a major overhaul of the city's children's hospital, including facade insulation, new windows and a modern roof. The city budget allocated more than UAH 17 million out of the required UAH 52 million.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the Dream ecosystem.

Mykolaiv has launched a large-scale project to overhaul the Children's City Hospital No. 2, located at 5 Ryumina Street. The reconstruction includes a complete renovation of the roof, insulation of the facade, replacement of old windows, and modernization of engineering networks.

The main goal of the renovation is to create comfortable conditions for patients and hospital staff, reduce energy consumption, increase security and improve the microclimate inside the building. Insulation of the facade will reduce heat loss in winter and keep it cool in summer, which will significantly improve the conditions for children and at the same time reduce utility costs.

The project covers a wide range of works. First of all, the structures will be reinforced where damage has been detected. The facade and basement will be insulated with modern materials that effectively retain heat and protect against external noise. The ceiling above the basement will also receive thermal insulation to help avoid heat loss through the floor. The old roof will be replaced with a modern, weather-resistant one. Along with it, a new gutter system will be installed so that rainwater flows properly and does not destroy the facade and foundation.

Instead of old, worn-out structures, modern double-glazed windows will be installed, which retain heat better, protect against noise, and add light to the premises. A waterproof blind area will be arranged around the building to prevent rainwater from penetrating the foundation. Some of the paving slabs and landscaping near the hospital will also be renewed.

The total budget of the project is UAH 52 million, of which UAH 17.5 million is financed from the local budget.

Most of the funds will be spent on construction and repair work. It also includes design costs, work supervision, project expertise, and taxes. The project implementation period is 9 months.

The hospital building, which has been in operation for more than a few decades, needed major repairs. The renovation will improve the living conditions for more than 200 children who are treated at the hospital at the same time, as well as for 181 staff members. Improved energy efficiency will help to reduce heating and electricity costs, while the new roof and windows will provide reliable protection from the weather.

According to the plan, the project began in January 2025, with an estimated duration of 9 months.

Major roof repairs with facade insulation and window replacement at Mykolaiv City Children's Hospital No. 2 were planned for 2020. The project was to be implemented at the expense of the State Fund for Regional Development. In 2023, UAH 670 thousand was spent on adjusting the design and estimate documentation.

Also, the Mykolaiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital plans to carry out a large-scale reconstruction that will cover several buildings of the medical institution. UAH 167 million is planned to be allocated for these works in 2025-2026. In addition, a modern children's diagnostic center with a transition to an inpatient facility and a civil defense shelter for 500 people is planned to be built in Mykolaiv. The cost of the project will be almost UAH 790 million, of which only 0.53% will be financed from the local budget.
