In Mykolaiv, the utility company was the first and currently the only one in Ukraine to receive an official permit to carry out demining work. The utility company officially received permission to survey and demine the territories in April 2025.

This is stated in the material of Suspilne.

Head Mykola Kukuruza said that the need to create such a unit arose due to the constant threat in the region and the presence of experienced specialists in the team.

''We had people who had already fought and were wounded or disabled after the fighting come to work for us. We hired a very competent sapper with practical experience and we are now working on it," he explained to Suspilne.

Before starting their work, the sappers underwent two months of training, during which they mastered the methods of identifying, searching for and neutralizing explosive devices. The first location that the experts have already examined was a 3,000-square-meter water treatment plant in Mykolaiv region. This area was under Russian shelling in 2022, which emphasizes the strategic importance of the work of municipal sappers for the restoration of critical infrastructure.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv region remains one of the most heavily mined areas of Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian bomb squads have discovered and defused 29,855 explosive devices. More than 14,000 pyrotechnics and identifiers have been involved in these operations. They have already cleared a total area of 12,066 hectares, using both manual and mechanized methods.
