Mykolaiv has announced a tender for the disposal of stray animals. More than sixty thousand hryvnias are planned to be spent from the budget.

This is evidenced by the data of the electronic public procurement system Prozorro.

The administration of Korabelnyi and Central districts are looking for a contractor to provide services for the collection and disposal of stray animals (dogs and cats).

The expected value of the procurement for services in Korabelnyi district is UAH 39,393.61, and in Central district - UAH 20,968.03.

The auction is scheduled for November 6 and 11. In the first tender, the minimum price reduction step is 0.50%, in the second - 0.95%.

The selected contractor must complete the work by December 31, 2024.

Payment is to be made by the customer from the date of receipt of the relevant budget funding on the basis of a duly executed certificate of services rendered. No bid security is required for both tenders.

The contractor must provide documented experience in performing similar work on the subject of the contract.

On the territory of Korabelnyi district, the contractor has to remove 19 corpses of stray animals weighing 315 kilograms. In the Central District, the contractor shall remove 16 stray animal corpses weighing 133 kilograms.

Vehicles allocated for the transportation of animal corpses must be equipped with waterproof closed bodies that are easily subjected to veterinary and sanitary treatment. After loading animal carcasses on the vehicle, the place where they were lying is subject to mandatory disinfection. The area where animal corpses were found should be disinfected with dry bleach at the rate of 0.5 kg/square meter.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the number of stray animals, especially dogs, has increased significantly on the streets of Mykolaiv. The main reason is the mass abandonment of animals by their owners during the evacuation in 2022. The municipal enterprise "Animal Protection Center" is working to solve this problem, despite difficult conditions such as shelling and staff shortages.

In August, police in Mykolaiv opened a criminal case over the transportation of dead animals. More than three hundred kilograms of dead animals were found at the scene of a road accident. To verify the legality of the transportation, investigators registered the case in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Cruelty to Animals".

Over the past decade, the Prosecutor General's Office has recorded 1599 criminal offenses related to animal cruelty in Ukraine. The Babushka court registry already has verdicts with real prison terms. This year, 32 criminal cases of animal cruelty have been brought to court. This is 18% of the total number of open proceedings.
