On October 27, Odesa hosted the anniversary festival of Ukrainian books, “From Word to Nation: 160 Years of Mykhailo Hrushevsky.” The event was dedicated to Ukrainian history, culture, and the promotion of books.
An Intenta photojournalist attended the event.
“This is already our 30th anniversary festival in memory of Mykhailo Hrushevsky, dedicated to the boundless world of Ukrainian books,” said Yevhen Zabianov, director of the Museum of the Ukrainian Book at the Hrushevsky Library.
According to him, the festival was launched after the library was named after the prominent Ukrainian historian. The program covers topics related to his scholarly and literary legacy, his ties to Odesa, and the history of the Ukrainian book.
To mark the 160th anniversary of Mykhailo Hrushevsky’s birth, library staff have set up a replica of the historian’s study in the lobby.

According to historian and lead librarian Ksenia Sorokina, the display was modeled after Hrushevsky’s study, which is on display at a museum in Kyiv.
For the exhibition, they gathered library furniture, books from the institution’s collection, photographs, and documents. Photocopies of the materials were obtained from Mykhailo Hrushevsky’s official digital archive and other Ukrainian archives. They tell the story of the historian’s family history and his political activities in the Central Rada.
