Military says Odesa is preparing to strengthen circular defense

The Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces "South" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a video showing the construction of engineering barriers and fortifications.

According to the military, the construction of multi-kilometer-long anti-tank ditches and fortified positions (dugouts) is also nearing completion, which should strengthen the city's circular defense system.

"Such measures are not bravado, but proactive work so that the enemy has no illusions: any attempt to land is doomed to defeat," the department emphasized.

However, the military reassured that they are reinforcing the defense not because any offensive is being prepared, but to prevent it.

It is worth noting that after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying the process of obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of the Transnistrian region of Moldova, a number of experts began to express concern that Russia may be trying to increase its mobilization potential in the region.

For example, political scientist, PhD in Philosophy Alexandra Reshmedilova believes that the Russian Federation's goal is likely to be severalfold. Well, in addition to destabilizing the problems of inconvenience and additional triggers for Ukraine and Moldova, she can see another important advantage for herself. This is getting an additional mobilization resource among the residents of Transnistria.

However, Artem Filipenko, the former head of the Southern Region Research Sector at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, who is currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said. The main difference after this decree is that, according to the expert, Transnistria has not been formally separated into a separate region by Russia. Those Moldovan citizens who were eligible for Russian citizenship received it. Currently, Transnistria has been singled out as a priority region of Moldova for Russia.
