Military medic in Odesa region detained on suspicion of negligence

Prosecutors of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region in Odesa Oblast have served a notice of suspicion to the former head of the medical service of a military unit, whose negligence caused the state to suffer losses of UAH 2.4 million.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, between October 2022 and March 2024, the suspect improperly performed his official duties, namely, he did not ensure proper control over the military personnel sent to medical institutions, did not verify their credentials, did not have information about the condition of patients in health care facilities and did not personally visit them.

The command of the unit revealed the facts of unauthorized leaving of the place of service and untimely return from medical institutions without valid reasons by 21 servicemen. As a result, the servicemen were unjustifiably accrued financial support for the period of absence from service in the total amount of UAH 2.4 million, which caused damage to the state.

If proven guilty, the doctor faces imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

Earlier, prosecutors of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Southern Region served a notice of suspicion to a law enforcement officer who tried to help a person liable for military service illegally cross the border. He was detained and charged with obstructing the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period and a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail was imposed. In July 2025, the suspect met with an acquaintance in one of Odesa's districts and agreed to transfer a person liable for military service to the Republic of Moldova for USD 13 thousand.
