Even before the full-scale invasion, the convicted man, Mykhailo Shpir, appeared on Medvedchuk’s TV channels as a “political analyst” and disseminated messages from the Kremlin. In 2020, he fled to Moscow, and after the start of the full-scale war, he became deputy minister of digital development and mass communications for the Kherson occupation administration. While in this position, Mykhailo Shpir disseminated the occupiers’ propaganda, and during the Russian retreat from the right bank of Kherson, he authorized Russian troops to blow up telecommunications towers. The aim of these actions was to deprive the local population of broadcasting and communication services. In 2023, Shpir received a medal from the Russians for his participation in a special military operation.

The traitor received his first sentence from a Ukrainian court in 2023. At that time, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Now, however, his sentence has been increased.
