The owner of a construction company who allegedly misappropriated budget funds during the reconstruction of a kindergarten will be tried in Kherson region. The indictment has now been sent to court.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson regional police communication department.

The defendant in the case is the founder of a private construction company that received a contract for the reconstruction of a kindergarten. According to the investigation, he misappropriated budget funds allocated for the renovation, and his actions were classified as misappropriation of another's property on a particularly large scale. The pre-trial investigation is now complete, and the indictment has been sent to court.

Law enforcement officers established that the Muzykivka Village Council entered into a contract with the businessman for the reconstruction of a local kindergarten. He was personally responsible for organizing the work and its implementation at the facility.

According to the investigation, since December 2018, for two years, the contractor has been overstating the amount of work performed and materials used in the acceptance certificates. As a result, Muzykivka Village Council overpaid the company almost UAH 1.292 million, which the owner of the company used at his own discretion.

According to Tetyana Kobzar, deputy head of the police department No. 1 (Bilozerske) of the Kherson district department, investigators notified the businessman of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office.

Currently, the suspect is in the temporarily occupied territories, and two trucks, a car, a house, an apartment and three land plots belonging to him have been seized.

The businessman faces up to 12 years in prison and confiscation of property for misappropriation of property on a large scale.

In August, an audit of the procurement of works to restore the Vysokopil Museum of Local Lore in Kherson region revealed overpricing. Investigators opened criminal proceedings under articles on embezzlement and forgery. According to the investigation, financial irregularities were discovered during the restoration of the museum, which was damaged as a result of Russian aggression.
