Kherson Man Charged in Absentia for Collaboration with Occupiers

A resident of Kherson region was served a notice of suspicion of collaboration in absence. The man took a position in an illegal law enforcement agency created by the occupation authorities.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, in August 2022, the 30-year-old suspect voluntarily became a "police officer" of the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs department of the occupied Skadovsk municipal district. He carried out orders from the occupation authorities and helped legitimize the illegal government.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the SBU in Kherson region. The suspect will be tried in absentia.

Recently, a former Ukrainian police officer who voluntarily joined the Russian occupation forces during the occupation of Kherson was put in the dock. For treason and collaboration with the enemy, the man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The man held various positions in an illegal law enforcement agency, including a driver and a staff officer. He contributed to the functioning of the occupation administration and carried out orders from Russian security forces.

One of the witnesses told the court that in April 2022 he noticed the defendant in Kherson. According to him, he offered him to join the occupation Ministry of Internal Affairs. Another witness claimed to have seen him in a Russian police uniform.

Earlier, the court sentenced two collaborators from the Kherson region to 15 years for working for the Russians, but so far in absence. After the Russian occupation, they voluntarily joined the ranks of the so-called "Russian police" in Oleshky. The men supported the invaders and became part of the occupation "law enforcement agency".

The court also sentenced a former police major from the Kherson region who voluntarily sided with the Russians.

Earlier, Intent wrote that a Kherson court sentenced a postal worker who went over to the enemy and helped the Russian occupation administration.
