In the Odessa region, Gazprom's debts, amounting to billions, have been put up for sale at a reduced price

The organizers have announced a second repeat auction for the sale of assets belonging to the "SY Zhnyva" farm, which is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. The starting price of the lot has been reduced from 3.8 billion to 2.29 billion hryvnias.

The lot was listed on August 12. 

The auction will take place on August 24 using a hybrid Dutch auction format: the lot’s price is automatically and incrementally reduced until one of the participants halts the process.

Afterward, the remaining participants submit higher bids in a sealed-bid format—the winner is the bidder who offers the highest amount. However, the participant who was the first to halt the price reduction has the right to make the final bid and may outbid that amount.

The farmers’ creditors are:PJSC “Gazprom,” LLC “Gazprom Capital,” and the international company LLC “Gazprom International Limited,” all of which are part of the Russian company “Gazprom.” 

The farming enterprise itself is currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. The Ukrainian company justified its claims by stating that, due to the full-scale invasion, it lost 3.8 billion hryvnias worth of grain—wheat, corn, and sunflower seeds—that were located in the Zaporizhzhia region.

According to the Zaporizhzhia Centerfor Investigations, as of February 2024, this company’s losses accounted for 71% of the total losses recorded by businesses in the Zaporizhzhia region. 

According to YouControl, LLC “SY “Zhniva” was registered in Odesa in 2019; its owner is Kyiv resident Kostyantyn Skrypnychenko.

The company’s losses, totaling 3.8 billion hryvnias, resulted from the Russian Federation’s occupation of parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions: grain stored in these territories was looted or spoiled.

The company filed a lawsuit against Russia with the Commercial Court of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and in February 2023, the court recognized the aggressor state’s liability and ordered it to compensate for the losses.

In June 2024, “SY Zhnyva” initiated new proceedings—this time against “Gazprom” and its affiliated companies—demanding that they be held jointly and severally liable under the “alter ego” doctrine. In August 2024, the court granted this request, recognizing Gazprom and its affiliated entities as the “alter ego” of the Russian Federation.

The company then attempted to enforce the judgment in the Netherlands: it filed a petition with the District Court of The Hague to seize Gazprom’s stakes in Wintershall and Gazprom International Projects. However, on June 5, 2025, the court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case due to the Russian Federation’s sovereign immunity and refused to recognize or enforce the ruling.

The assets had already been put up for auction in June and July, but both auctions ended without a buyer.
