In the Odesa region, a Russian informant who called for an attack on a police battalion was convicted

A resident of the village of Lymanke in the Odesa region provided a representative of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) with information about the location of a special-purpose police battalion. The court found him guilty of treason and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This is stated in the verdict of the Rozdilna District Court of the Odesa region.

According to the case file, the man was unemployed, had a secondary education, and had no prior criminal record. In October 2024, he used Telegram to pass information to an FSB officer who was gathering data on the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Specifically, on October 13, 2024, the man reported the location of a special-purpose police battalion in the building of a former boarding school in Lyman. He noted that a significant number of law enforcement officers were present there, traveling in vehicles with police license plates.

In a subsequent message, the author wrote that Ukrainian units were dispersing into small groups in the residential area and called for strikes to be carried out while they were still together.

“There’s another interesting spot. A former boarding school—a fair number of scumbags have pulled in, driving around with police license plates; they say it’s Battalion NN. They’ve been hauling in their gear all day long. Take a look—I understand you have the means… They’ve adopted a new strategy. They’re spreading out in small groups in the residential area; hit them while they’re still together,” the message read.

The court determined that the information provided concerned the unit’s actual deployment location. According to the court’s conclusion, the man was aware that this information could be used for subversive activities against Ukraine.

The defendant did not admit guilt. He claimed that he did not send the messages and that the data could have appeared on his phone as a result of third-party interference. The court rejected these arguments and found him guilty of treason under martial law.

The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison with the confiscation of all his property.
