An employee was caught taking bribes at one of Odessa’s district military registration and enlistment offices and joint service centers. The court remanded her to pretrial detention with the option of release on bail set at 1 million hryvnias.

According to the State Bureau of Investigations, the official from the mobilization department promised, in exchange for money, to arrange disability status and deferments from conscription for those subject to military service.

The woman worked in tandem with a lawyer—he would refer clients to her ostensibly for consultations on obtaining a disability classification.

After reviewing the documents, the official demanded $11,000 for her services. In exchange for this money, she promised to influence the head of the expert team responsible for assessing a person’s daily functioning to determine disability status.

She was then supposed to negotiate with the leadership of the mobilization office to secure a deferment from conscription for the person subject to military service.

On July 20, 2026, SBI officers detained the woman immediately after she received the money.

She was notified that she was suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court ordered her to be held in pretrial detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 1 million hryvnias.

If found guilty, the suspect faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials are identifying all participants in the scheme.

Earlier, Intent reported on another corruption case in Odesa—law enforcement officers detained an officer of the district Traffic Control Center and Special Police Unit who is suspected of accepting a bribe in the form of 1,000 liters of diesel fuel.
