In Odesa region, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau detected illegal expenditures in two military units, which together amounted to more than UAH 1.2 million. It turned out that these funds were illegally paid in the form of salaries and allowances to military personnel.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

In the first case, the acting assistant commander of one of the military units paid more than UAH 545,000 to four soldiers who, as it turned out, were wanted for unauthorized departure from the unit.

In the second incident, the deputy chief of staff of another military unit accrued UAH 670 thousand using forged documents.

Both suspects have now been notified of being suspected under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face 7 to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions for up to three years.

In total, law enforcement officers in nine regions of Ukraine exposed 13 military officials who illegally accrued over UAH 13 million in payments to servicemen who were not actually in the area of active hostilities. The suspects include unit commanders, heads and employees of individual units, as well as the former head of the regional Military Commissariat and JV.

Recently, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, commented on the use of the annual bonus fund to encourage servicemen. The statement came after MP Mariana Bezuhla published documents on cash bonuses, calling them "generals' bonuses."

The commander explained that the bonuses are granted at the request of commanders, and last year the fund of UAH 1.2 million allowed to reward 223 servicemen of different categories: sailors, sergeants, petty officers and officers.
