In Mykolaiv, schoolchildren have been moved to shelters for classes

In Mykolaiv, due to an increase in rocket-powered drone attacks, officials are considering changes to the school schedule. Among the possible changes are holding classes in two shifts in shelters and starting classes at 7:30 a.m.

This was announced by Hanna Lychko, head of the Mykolaiv City Council’s Department of Education, during a staff meeting on August 4.

According to her, in the new school year, 52 educational institutions will operate in a hybrid format, while another 12 will conduct classes remotely. At the same time, a meeting with school principals is scheduled for August 11 to develop new operational protocols in light of the increase in “Shahed” rocket attacks.

One of the key factors will be the capacity of shelters. In schools where shelters cannot accommodate all students at once, classes may be held directly in the shelters and organized into two shifts.

The preliminary plan is for elementary school students to attend the first shift, and students in grades 5–11 to attend the second. Additionally, some schools may begin the school day as early as 7:30 a.m.

Also, from August 17 to 20, a survey of parents regarding their preferred form of education for their children will be conducted in Mykolaiv. Depending on the results, city authorities may review the network of educational institutions and the format of their operations.

City council officials note that the educational process this school year may differ significantly from last year’s.

Recently, a high school building in Mykolaiv was damaged during an attack by strike drones. A school bus caught fire on the school grounds.
