The extreme heat has been adversely affecting the health of Mykolaiv Oblast residents for several days in a row. People are fainting right on the streets.

For example, on Soborna Street, passers-by filmed an ambulance taking away a man who had suffered from heat stroke.

Weather forecasts for the next week do not predict any significant changes, but short-term rain is expected at the end of the week.

Mykolaiv is no stranger to drought. Exactly the same year, such weather had a negative impact on harvests. Thus, in 2024, farmers harvested 180 thousand tons of early grains less than in 2023. In addition, a much smaller harvest of sunflower and corn is expected.

The situation in Odesa region is no better today. Due to the prolonged heat and lack of rain, the condition of late crops has deteriorated. In some areas, the crops had to be mowed or re-harvested due to wilting, disease spread and stunted growth. Plants wilted, yellowed, curled and dried leaves and stems in the fields.

As the temperature rises, the asphalt pavement becomes more viscous and can deform under the weight of heavy trucks, causing ruts, cracks and even potholes. To avoid large-scale damage, road workers decided to restrict the movement of heavy trucks during the hottest hours of the day.

In a village in Mykolaiv region, a dry grass fire spread to a private house. As a result, a woman died and her daughter was injured. Her daughter tried to save her mother, but suffered burns on her hands and was hospitalized in a burn unit.

Doctors warn what to do and how to recognize heat stroke in time.
