In Mykolaiv, city council members are proposing to hear testimony from the leadership of the Department of Internal Financial Control, as well as from the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans,” following journalistic investigations into possible financial irregularities at municipal enterprises.

This was discussed during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, which was broadcast by Intent.

City Council member Andriy Yantar initiated the proposal.

According to him, there has recently been an increase in media and social media reports about possible financial irregularities at enterprises and institutions funded by the city budget.

As an example, the council member cited a publication by “Nashi Hroshi” that reported on an attempt by the municipal enterprise“Mykolaivelektrotrans” to purchase copper cable at a significantly inflated price.

“An entire department is funded by the local budget to combat corruption and economic crimes in the city of Mykolaiv. It is this department that should be addressing these issues, not journalists, since its employees receive salaries, bonuses, and allowances from the local budget, Yantar stated.

As part of parliamentary oversight, he proposed inviting Vitaliy Yaroshenko, acting director of the Department of Internal Financial Control, Oversight, and Anti-Corruption, to the next plenary session to deliver a public report on the department’s work.

In particular, the deputies want information on the number of audits conducted, materials forwarded to law enforcement agencies, the results of their review, as well as data on the department’s staff compensation and performance metrics.

Separately, Yantar proposed inviting the director of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans” to explain the situation regarding the procurement of copper cable.

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych supported this initiative and issued a formal directive to invite the head of the Department of Internal Financial Control, as well as the director of the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans,” so that they could answer the council members’ questions.
