In Mykolaiv, authorities plan to flush the city’s water supply networks using chlorination and hyperchlorination. The work is tentatively scheduled to begin on November 2 and will last approximately three months.

This was announced by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.

According to him, test results from various laboratories showed that water leaving the treatment plants meets drinking water quality standards. However, as the water flows through the city’s networks, the quality deteriorates in some samples.

City officials attribute this, in part, to the prolonged use of water with elevated salt content. Therefore, they plan to flush the networks again.

The decision to carry out this work was approved by the regional commission on emergency situations and civil protection. “Mykolaivvodokanal” is currently preparing to purchase additional chlorine, so the final start date for the flushing will be announced separately.

During the flushing and hyperchlorination, tap water will not be safe for drinking or cooking, Senkevich emphasized.

City authorities promise to notify residents in advance about the start of the work and the procedure for carrying it out. During the work, free distribution points for purified water will continue to operate in Mykolaiv.

Recently, it was announced that starting October 1, 2026, the rate for centralized wastewater disposal will increase in Mykolaiv for all categories of consumers. The City Council’s Executive Committee has set a new rate per cubic meter for the municipal utility “Mykolaivvodokanal.”

The new rate will be 41.256 hryvnia per cubic meter, including VAT, and will apply to all categories of consumers. It will take effect on October 1, 2026.

In addition, the Mykolaiv region ranks among the top three regions in Ukraine in terms of the amount of new debt related to water supply and wastewater services.
