After personnel changes in the Kiliya City Council, the newly elected secretary Serhiy Mergut was temporarily entrusted with the duties of mayor. The deputies supported his candidacy during a secret ballot at the city council session.

This was reported by the press service of the Izmail District State Administration.

On Tuesday, June 3, during the 75th session of the Kiliya City Council, the deputies elected a new secretary of the city council. The decision was made by secret ballot.

Serhiy Mergut was elected to the position of Secretary of the Kiliya City Council. Prior to his election, he headed the Department of Education and Youth Policy of the Kiliya City Council.

Due to staffing changes, the newly elected secretary is temporarily entrusted with the duties of the mayor of Kiliya. From now on, Mergut will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the community and the performance of key management functions.

The community expressed hope that the new leadership will be able to ensure the stable operation of the local government, respond effectively to challenges and maintain cohesion in addressing issues important to residents.

On June 2, a court removed from office the mayor of Kilia, Viacheslav Cherniavskyi, who is suspected of receiving undue benefits and creating obstacles to the implementation of a wind farm project in Odesa region.

The day before, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of the mayor of Kiliya, who is suspected of extorting a bribe during the implementation of a project to upgrade energy infrastructure in the south of the country. According to the investigation, the official tried to receive USD 35 thousand from a representative of a company with foreign capital.

In exchange for these funds, the mayor guaranteed foreign contractors quick and unhindered processing of permits for the construction of a wind farm in the port city. The facility was supposed to provide alternative electricity for residential buildings and important social institutions in the community, including hospitals, schools and kindergartens.
