A resident of Kherson was sentenced to 13 years in prison for working for the occupiers. He was the head of the medical service in the so-called Department of Corrections.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

A resident of Kherson was sentenced to 13 years in prison for participating in an illegal law enforcement agency of the occupation authorities. The court also confiscated his property and banned him from holding positions in government, local government or law enforcement agencies for 14 years.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, in May 2022, the 32-year-old agreed to head the medical department of the "Department of the Penitentiary Service" created by the occupation authorities. Before the occupation, he worked as the head of the medical unit No. 90 of the State Institution "Centralized Health Center of the SPS of Ukraine" in the Kherson region, had experience in organizing medical care for prisoners and access to management processes in the field of penitentiary.

After joining the occupiers, he began to apply Russian protocols for medical supervision and organization of the institution, and gave interviews to propaganda media, talking about the health of prisoners and creating a false impression of the humanity of the occupation structures. Such actions, according to the investigation, contributed to the legalization of the illegal activities of the occupation administration and harmed the national security of Ukraine. The court passed the verdict in absentia: the man will serve his sentence from the moment of detention.

Also, the former deputy head and head of the department of Holoprystan Correctional Colony No. 7 were convicted of organizing the forced transfer and deportation of Ukrainian citizens from the Kherson region. People were sent by special transport to other colonies in the occupied territories and to correctional facilities in Russia. He facilitated the deportation of more than 1700 Ukrainian citizens.

In March, law enforcement officers detained a man who collaborated with the invaders in the colony during the occupation of Kherson region. After the liberation of the region, he remained in the territory controlled by Ukraine, concealed his cooperation, moved to another region and joined the Armed Forces; he was suspected of voluntarily holding a position in an illegal law enforcement agency, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
