Head of the Afghanistan Veterans Union of Odesa was killed while defending Ukraine from Russian invaders

Konstantin Oborin, the head of the NGO "Territorial Branch of the Union of Afghanistan Veterans of Odesa", was killed on July 18 while performing a combat mission.

The news was reported by volunteer Kateryna Nozhevnikova and later confirmed by Konstantin Oborin's daughter Polina.

Konstantin Oborin served under the call sign "Kamikaze" and, as Kateryna Nozhevnikova recalled, every year he traveled to Kyiv to get permission to continue his service, because he was already over 60 years old.

"Yes, it is true. Unfortunately, Kamikaze Kostiantyn Oboryn, our father, grandfather, beloved husband, legendary warrior, living legend, is no more. It happened yesterday on a mission," said Polina Oborina.

In addition to the Afghanistan Veterans' Union, according to the YouControl service, Kostyantyn Oborin also headed the Parachuting Federation of Odesa Oblast and was one of its founders.

He ran three times for the Odesa City Council in 1998, 2002, and 2006, but was not elected. In September 2022, as the head of the Odesa Flying Club, Kostiantyn Oborin took to the skies to scatter the ashes of his student, Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Buvalkin.

In June, tenor Vladyslav Horai, a soloist at the Odesa National Opera and Ballet Theater, was killed while performing his volunteer mission.

Also in June, former Odesa mayor Ruslan Bodelan died. Also, at the age of 71, the heart of Ihor Uchytel, a former deputy of the Odesa Regional Council and chairman of the supervisory board of Odesagaz, stopped beating.

At the age of 88, the heart of writer and local historian Anatoliy Horbatiuk stopped beating . And in May, a man who suffered from a Russian missile attack on the port of Odesa on May 23 died in hospital and became the third victim of the attack.
