Head of military clinic department detained for bribes in Odesa region

In Odesa region, the head of a military clinic was detained while receiving a bribe from a serviceman. In exchange for the money, the doctor promised to help with the preparation of documents on limited fitness for service.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.

In Odesa region, the head of a military clinic department was detained for extorting a bribe from a serviceman. The doctor estimated his "services" at $2000 - for this money he promised to prepare documents that would allow the sailor to receive the status of limitedly fit for service.

According to the police, the head of the emergency surgery department demanded a monetary reward from the serviceman for his assistance in preparing medical documentation that could become the basis for the relevant decision of the military medical commission. This would have allowed the serviceman to move to a less risky job in the rear units, such as logistics, communications, or security.

At first, the doctor demanded 10 thousand dollars, but later agreed to 2000. He was detained immediately after receiving the money. The money was seized as material evidence.

The man was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion and receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official using his position. The sanction of the article provides for up to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.

The court imposed on the suspect a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 605,600. The investigation is currently ongoing.

The day before, in Odesa region, law enforcement officers detained the head of one of the district territorial centers for recruitment and social support, who is suspected of taking a bribe. Investigators documented the crime and detained the official in the center of Odesa after he received the entire agreed amount in installments.
