Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained the head of a district department of the territorial center for recruitment and social support in Odesa region on suspicion of taking a bribe.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region.

According to the investigation, the detainee demanded money from a citizen in the amount of two thousand dollars for the production of a new military registration document, removal from the wanted list in the electronic system as a person who had not updated his credentials, and for granting a deferral from conscription during mobilization. At the same time, the official stated that it would be impossible to resolve the issue without the transfer of funds.

Investigators documented the crime and detained the official in the center of Odesa after he received the entire agreed amount in two installments. The police seized money, documentation and other items as material evidence.

The official was served a notice of suspicion of extortion and bribery. If found guilty, the military officer faces imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.

At the request of the police, the court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention on the suspect.

In August, officers of the State Bureau of Investigation served a notice of suspicion to an inspector of the Prymorskyi District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support in Odesa, who was involved in a scheme to organize an illegal deferment from military service.

Law enforcement officers of Odesa region jointly with the SBU exposed the acting head of the district territorial center for recruitment and social support on bribery. In return for USD 1.5 thousand, the official promised to remove a person liable for military service from the list of wanted persons.
