Half a million tons of carbon dioxide entered Odesa's air after Russian shelling on May Day

Specialists of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District investigated the consequences of a massive attack on Odesa on the night of May 1.

According to the inspectorate's press service, the shelling on the night of May 1 in the Khadzhybey district of Odesa caused a fire in a warehouse on the territory of an infrastructure facility.

The fire covered an areaof 6,000 square meters and released almost 500 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The damage amounted to more than UAH 1.4 million.

The attack also resulted in damage to residential buildings and the deaths of local residents. High-rise buildings, private houses, a supermarket, a school and cars were damaged in the city. Fires broke out in some places. The aftermath of the strike is still being dealt with. Tents are being set up to provide additional assistance.

The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a railroad worker was killed in his home during the attack in Odesa, and that one of the railroad sections was damaged: tracks, contact network and three freight cars were damaged.

The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a war crime investigation into Russia's nighttime attack on Odesa. The drone strike killed two people and injured 15 others. A high-rise building, other residential buildings, an educational institution, a supermarket and a car were damaged. The consequences are being recorded, the agency said.

The air alert in Odesa region lasted from 23:12 on April 30 to 00:38 on May 1. Initially, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the movement of attack drones from the Black Sea towards Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, but later clarified that Odesa was the main target. After that, explosions began to be heard in the city.

Earlier, specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District investigated the consequences of the missile strike on Odesa, which was carried out by the Russians on the evening of April 22, and estimated the damage at more than 1.2 million hryvnias.
