"Google 'Oleshka'": Ukrainian tennis player appeals to the world after her match

After winning the WTA 500 tournament in Singapore, Ukrainian tennis player Oleksandra Oliynikova called on spectators to pay attention to the humanitarian situation in the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. She asked people to spread the word about the shortage of food and medicine in the city and the inability to evacuate.

Oliinikova defeated American Vivian Wolff in two sets in the first round of the tournament and advanced to the round of 16.

After the match, the Ukrainian player addressed the audience, asking them to look up information about the situation in Oleshky.

“You know that I’m from Ukraine, and we’re at war right now. After the match, I want to ask you one thing: please Google information about Oleshky. It’s currently under temporary occupation, and there’s a humanitarian crisis there,” the tennis player said.

According to her, there are reports that the city’s residents are starving, have no access to humanitarian aid or medicine, and are unable to leave or evacuate.

Oliynikova urged viewers to look up information about Oleshky after the tournament ends and to share it in order to draw attention to the situation and help save the lives of Ukrainians.

Recently, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations called on the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and world religious leaders to urgently facilitate the evacuation of residents from occupied Oleshky. In a city where food supplies were last seen at the end of May, more than 6,000 trapped civilians are on the brink of starvation.
