Forest fire extinguished in Mykolaiv region

A fire broke out in the Varyushyne forest tract near the village of Veselynivka in the Voznesensk district of Mykolaiv region. According to the State Emergency Service, the fire started on the afternoon of July 28, when coniferous flooring, shrubs, and dry grass caught fire. Due to gusty winds, the fire quickly engulfed the area and spread towards the residential sector and the forest.

This was reported by the main department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region.

Two residential buildings were damaged as a result of the fire. The fire covered 45 hectares, of which 25 are forest flooring and another 20 are dry grass in the open. 106 rescuers, 20 units of SES equipment, the local fire department of the village of Pokrovka, as well as 5 units of equipment and 10 forestry workers were involved in the firefighting.

As of the morning of July 29, the fire was completely extinguished. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Mykolaiv region reported 33 fires as of July 21 and on the night of July 22, where the total area of fires exceeded 23 hectares. The vast majority of them were caused by dry grass, shrubs, garbage and crop residues. In addition, during this period, 5 fires were recorded on the territories of private households. One of the fires was a coniferous litter fire in the Mykhailo-Laryne forest tract of Mykolaiv forestry. The 400-square-meter fire was extinguished by the local fire department of Peresadivka village and forestry workers.

In March, a fire in Mykolaiv region destroyed 18 hectares of the Yelanetska steppe and 55 hectares of the territory. The flames from the dead wood went beyond human dwellings. The fire spread to the territory of the Yelanetska Steppe Nature Reserve, destroying 7 hectares of the protected area and another 11 hectares of open space. Rescuers and the local Buzke fire brigade were engaged in extinguishing the fire, which threatened the unique ecosystem.
