Foreign Trademark Applications in Ukraine Drop 37% in 2024

In 2024, 2,573 applications for trademark registration were filed in Ukraine by foreign companies. This is 37% less than in 2021, when the number of applications exceeded 4,000.

According to the Opendatabot monitoring service, the leaders among the applicant countries were the United States (18.4% of all applications), Switzerland (12.5%), and Cyprus (9.7%). Companies from China, the UK, and Poland were also active in registering trademarks.

Among the largest applicants are the following companies:

Most often, foreigners filed applications for TMs related to medical and veterinary products - 711 applications (27.6%); advertising, administration and office services - 472 (18.3%); tobacco products and accessories - 341 (13.3%); scientific, electronic and optical devices - 306 (11.9%); cosmetics and household chemicals - 282 (11.0%)

The absolute record holder was FELIX TRADE PTE. LTD, which filed trademark applications in 20 different areas of activity.

In 2024, Ukrainian companies filed 18 thousand applications for trademark registration. In total, since 2015, the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovations (UKIPI) has received 267,600 applications. Businesses most often patent business activities, advertising, medical products, and educational projects. Roshen became the leader in the number of applications.

More than 180,000 companies operate in the frontline regions of Ukraine, of which more than 43,000 are located in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. Mykolaiv region ranks third with 27,346 companies (15.2% of the total). Kherson region has 16,108 registered companies.

Also, 468 companies from the South of Ukraine are members of the White Business Club established by the Tax Service. Overall, there are 7,997 such companies in the country, but not all of them meet the transparency criteria. The largest number of white business representatives is in Odesa region - 312 companies. There are 143 companies registered in Mykolaiv region, and Kherson region is the third with eight companies.
