Explosion in Mykolaiv: Casualties Reported as Investigation Starts

There was an explosion in Mykolaiv, there are victims. All the circumstances are being investigated.

This was reported by the mayor Oleksandr Senkevych.

An explosion was heard. We are investigating it. - Mr. Senkevych said.

Later, an air raid alarm was sounded in the city.

As reported by Suspilne, an explosion occurred in Mykolaiv on February 14 at a catering establishment.

Police and emergency service specialists are working at the scene. People were injured, several were taken by ambulance. Law enforcement is currently establishing the cause of the explosion. The place where the explosion occurred was fenced off with tape. Law enforcement officers are checking the area, as of 15:00, two people were taken away by ambulance.

Another media outlet, Novosti N, reported that it was not an enemy drone or missile attack - the explosive device was apparently located on the street near the front door.

At this time, one person has been reported dead and at least two people have been injured.

Emergency rescue operations are currently underway at the site of the explosion. The scene is cordoned off by ambulances, police and bomb squads.

Recently, the police of Bashtanka district received a report about the hospitalization of a 9-year-old resident of Novyi Buh. The child was diagnosed with a serious injury to his hand, which led to the amputation of his fingers. The police found out that the boy had found an explosive device while home alone and picked it up. This caused the explosion.

Since February 2022, 1,083 civilians in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine have been injured by Russian anti-personnel mines. Among them, 333 people were killed and 750 were injured. Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions remain the most mine-contaminated regions.
