The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another former guard of a Russian torture chamber that operated during the occupation of Kherson.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, during the temporary occupation of the city, the man worked in an illegally created law enforcement agency, which the Russian military set up on the basis of the seized institution.

He acted as a security guard and helped to detain illegally detained local residents.

The SBU notes that the defendant is involved in ensuring the operation of the torture chamber, where the occupants used physical and psychological pressure on people.

After the liberation of Kherson, the man tried to avoid responsibility, but law enforcement officers established his whereabouts and detained him.

He was served a notice of suspicion. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being decided.

Earlier, law enforcement officers submitted to the court an indictment against two members of an illegal armed group of the Russian Federation, who are accused of treason, participation in illegal armed groups and cruel treatment of civilians. The investigation established that in July 2022, they abducted a resident of Kherson and interrogated him with the use of torture.

The man was threatened with execution, a gun was put to his head and a shot was imitated. During further interrogations, he was tortured with electric shock and beaten. The victim spent more than a month in illegal detention, subjected to systematic physical violence and loss of consciousness. In August, he was dumped on a city street.

The court is also considering the case of a Russian colonel accused of abducting and torturing civilians during the occupation of Skadovsk. Among the victims is the mayor Yakovlev, who was captured and interrogated by the Russian military.
