Two members of the illegal armed group of the Russian Federation, who are accused of high treason, participation in illegal armed groups and cruel treatment of civilians, will be tried in Kherson region.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the indictment has already been sent to court.

According to the investigation, in the summer of 2022, during the occupation of Kherson, the accused joined the structure of the so-called regional security service, organized by the occupiers and modeled on the Russian special services. One of them headed the special operations unit, the other took the position of an operative.

The defendants persecuted local residents for their pro-Ukrainian position, illegally deprived them of their liberty and kept them in basements in inhumane conditions.

The investigation established that in July 2022, they abducted a resident of Kherson and interrogated him with the use of torture. The man was threatened with execution, a gun was put to his head and a shot was imitated. During further interrogations, he was tortured with electric shock and beaten.

The victim spent more than a month in illegal detention, subjected to systematic physical violence and loss of consciousness. In August, he was dumped on a city street.

In September 2022, the defendants detained another man who was accused of allegedly throwing punches. He was also tortured with electric shocks and severely beaten.

It was recorded that other people were subjected to similar torture. Prisoners were kept in unsanitary basements without light, beds or normal conditions. Some were chained to radiators and had limited access to basic needs.

Currently, the defendants face long-term imprisonment.

As a reminder, in Kakhovka, during the occupation, a civilian man was kept in a basement for almost two weeks and tortured to extract a"confession". Two members of the pseudo-police are suspected of ill-treatment and have already been notified of suspicion in absence.
