The "European Solidarity" faction stated that it can no longer continue its political partnership with People's Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko due to differences regarding ending the war and Ukraine's future security architecture.
This is stated in a press release from the political party.
"European Solidarity" emphasized that it considers a strong Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian language, an independent Ukrainian church, and Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO to be the party’s core principles.
The party stated that these issues cannot be subject to negotiation “neither within Ukraine nor, even less so, in negotiations with Russia.”
European Solidarity cited Goncharenko’s public positions on ending the war and Ukraine’s future security architecture as the reason for the decision regarding him. The party noted that they had parted ways with European Solidarity’s position and its ideological foundations.
At the same time, the party emphasized that this decision does not negate years of joint work.
“European Solidarity” also stated that responsibility for Ukraine’s negotiating position and diplomatic strategy currently lies with the government, which holds a supermajority and full authority. The party called on the government to hold a public discussion on a realistic path toward a ceasefire and a just peace.
“European Solidarity” noted that Ukraine needs to discuss ways to end the war, ensure security guarantees, and prevent new Russian aggression.
At the same time, the party stated that it is open to compromises as part of the path to ending the war, but considers Ukraine’s independence, its European future, issues of national identity, and the right to independently determine its security system to be non-negotiable.
As of early October, the “European Solidarity” faction in the Verkhovna Rada consisted of 26 deputies.
Intent attempted to obtain a comment from Oleksiy Goncharenko, but as of the time of publication, he had not responded to the request.
