Environmental damage from russian attacks on Odesa totals ₴31.5M

Specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District investigated the consequences of the missile strike on Odesa that was carried out by the Russians on the night of April 21-22 and estimated the total damage at 583,000 hryvnias.

According to the inspection, the mass of carbon dioxide emissions into the air amounted to almost 192 tons.

The total area of the fire was 2,420 square meters. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into violations of the rules of war due to the Russian air attack on Odesa on the night of April 22. Civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, educational institutions, and cars were damaged and destroyed. The fires were extinguished by rescuers, volunteers, a firefighting unit of the National Guard of Ukraine and a unit of the Odesa City Council. According to the municipality, more than 90 windows were smashed in three schools in the city as a result of the enemy attack.

The fires and civilian casualties were also the result of an air attack on Odesa by the Russian army on April 14. The strikes caused fires at several addresses. Specialists from the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District investigated the consequences of this attack as well. The investigation revealed that land plots were contaminated over an area of almost 500 square meters. The estimated amount of damage to the environment is UAH 31.5 million.

Earlier, environmental inspectors also calculated the environmental damage caused by a Russian drone attack in the Peresypskyi district of Odesa on the night of April 13-14, 2025.

Then, as a result of enemy shelling, the warehouses of a private enterprise caught fire. The total area of the fire was about 1,000 square meters.

According to environmental services, the fire released almost 80 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The estimated amount of environmental damage exceeds UAH 241 thousand.
